Content updates: Edit Products, bulk spreadsheets, and locked attributes
Change titles, bullets, descriptions, and images on vendor ASINs — one at a time or in bulk — and know which attributes are locked and need a case instead.

- ✓Prepare a field-level change request with current and approved values.
- ✓Use Items → Edit Products for single ASINs and exported spreadsheets for bulk changes.
- ✓Recognize locked attributes (brand, product ID, product type, browse node) that only a Contact Us case can change.
- ✓Distinguish partial success from completion when reviewing the result.
Make the requested change unambiguous.
Good content updates begin with a precise request: the ASIN, the exact fields, the current values, the approved replacements, and the evidence behind them. Keep those together and the outcome is easy to check — field by field.
Change scope and evidence
List each change as ASIN → field → current value → approved value. Attach the source that justifies it: the approved copy deck, the specification sheet, the packaging artwork. In 1P, evidence is not bureaucracy — when Amazon Retail's own data outranks yours, the case you eventually open will be decided on it.
Single ASIN: Edit Products
Items → Edit Products, search the ASIN, and edit the detail page fields directly: title, bullet points, description, images, and the editable attributes. Submit, then check the submission status. Amazon reviews some changes before they appear, so "submitted" and "live" can be days apart.
Bulk: export, edit, re-upload
For dozens or hundreds of ASINs, export a pre-filled spreadsheet from Edit Products (or Manage Catalog), change the fields in Excel, and re-upload it through Bulk product submissions. Two habits keep this safe:
- Change only the columns you mean to change; a stray edit in an unrelated column is applied like any other.
- Keep the export as your before snapshot so you can prove what the values were.
Track the upload in the submission status view and download the error sheet if anything is flagged.
Locked attributes
Some fields cannot be changed through Edit Products or a spreadsheet once the ASIN exists: brand name, product ID (UPC/EAN), product type, and browse node are the usual four. Changing them takes a Support → Contact Us case (product detail page or item setup category) with evidence — packaging photos showing the brand and barcode, or a GS1 certificate. Do not work around a lock by creating a new ASIN with the "right" values; that is a duplicate, and it will be merged.
Reading the outcome
Check the live page field by field, and record the results separately. A single ASIN can have a verified image change and an unresolved title change in the same submission. Mark what displays as verified, keep what does not as unresolved with its evidence attached, and only then decide whether the next step is a re-submission or a case.
Da ricordare
A single item can have a verified image change and an unresolved title change. Track both accurately.
Mettilo in pratica
Scenario
A fictional product needs a new title and a new main image. You submit both through Edit Products. Three days later the image has changed; the title still shows the old text, and the submission status shows no error.
Esercizio
- Compare the live page against both requested changes.
- Mark the image as verified and the title as unresolved in your tracker, with the before and after values.
- Decide whether the title needs a re-submission or a case, and assemble the evidence you would attach.
Mostra un approccio suggerito
Record the outcomes independently. The image is done. For the title, a clean submission that does not display almost always means another contribution — often Amazon Retail's — is winning. Re-submitting rarely changes that; a Contact Us case citing the ASIN, the current title, the approved title, and the copy-deck evidence is the productive next step.
